Why You Need a Water Filter
There are hundreds of chemical contaminants in tap water, and the EPA currently only requires 90 to be regulated within a safe, measurable limit. This means there are way more chemicals hiding in your water that nobody is testing for.
Additionally, tens of thousands of people in the US are actually drinking contaminated water even with these EPA regulations. This is why it’s critical to use a water filter.
I have a post that goes into all the need to know details on tap water contaminants. If you haven’t read that post yet, feel free to check it out here.
Then come back to this page for my review on why the Aquasana Claryum Two Stage Under Sink Water Filter with Dedicated Faucet is my go-to choice for water filters.
Aquasana Has Many Different Options
Although I love that my water filter has a dedicated faucet due to space saving, Aquasana makes many different water filters to suit your needs. You can check out their website here to compare all their different options.
Maybe you are a renter and cannot make modifications to your sink design, or simply do not want to give up your water sprayer or dedicated soap dispenser for a water filter faucet.
They make countertop, whole house, and under sink using existing faucet options that all have varying filtration abilities.
Save Space with an Under Sink Water Filter
In my other post I briefly touched on the different types of water filters available for purchase. One of the most well known are countertop, pitcher style water filters like Brita. There are also under sink water filters, and whole house water filters.
Under sink water filters are easy to install by a homeowner unlike a professionally installed whole house filter. They also take up little to no counter space, unlike pitcher water filters that sit on your counter.
This is one advantage to a system like the Aquasana Under Sink Water Filter.
How Does the Aquasana Under Sink Water Filter Work?
This model contains two different kinds of carbon filters which work on removing the hazardous contaminants while keeping healthy minerals like calcium, magnesium, and potassium in place.
Feel Confident With an NSF Certified Water Filter
One key element when looking to purchase a water filter for your home is what contaminants it is able to filter out. You also want to ensure their claims are backed with proof that the filter actually does what it’s supposed to do.
An easy way to feel confident that your water filter is legitimate is to look for NSF certification. The NSF (National Science Foundation) is an independent federal agency that provides its own research and certification on certain products, including water filters.
Aquasana is NSF certified to reduce
- 97% of Chlorine and chloramines
- 99% of Lead
- 96% of PFOA/PFOS
After installing our filter, I was pleased to notice an immediate difference in the taste of our water.
No surprise, as it reduces a total of 77 contaminants including
- Microplastics
- Mercury
- chlorine-resistant cysts
- Herbicides
- Pesticides
- VOCs
- Pharmaceuticals
- and more (1).
Dedicated Faucet
The dedicated faucet is easy to install and comes in three different finishes. If your sink has a pull out sprayer, or a dedicated soap dispenser, these are easy to swap out for your dedicated water filter faucet. This is what I did and although I thought I loved my dedicated soap dispenser, I love my clean water better.
It’s super easy to install if you choose to replace a sprayer or soap dispenser for the dedicated faucet. If you don’t have a place to install the faucet, there is the option to use a special drill attachment to make the perfect hole for your water filter faucet.
Easy Installation
When you get your Aquasana Two Stage Under Sink Water Filter, you’ll be up and running with cleaner water in no time. The instruction manual is extremely detailed and makes for an easy installation including the following steps
- Turn off your cold water supply under your sink and turn on your kitchen faucet to drain water from the line
- Disconnect the cold water supply
- Attach hardware and tubing to your cold water line
- Insert dedicated faucet into drilled hole using included hardware
- Connect tubing to dedicated faucet
- Install mounting system in your under sink cabinet that will hold the filters
- Attach each filter to mounting system by pushing in and turning clockwise
- Connect water supply lines
- Turn on your cold water, checking for leaks
- Run your water for 10 minutes before using
How Often To Change Filters
The filters last for 6 months or up to 500 gallons. They are easy to replace under your sink and it does not require messing with tubing or plumbing. I haven’t experienced any leaks and have never had any issues replacing my filters.
Simply unscrew your old filters, and screw in the new filters.
It takes less than 5 minutes.
The system also comes with a battery that will beep when it’s time to replace your filters. This is a great reminder to order new filters.
Or, you can sign up for the Aquasana Water For Life auto shipment program. You’ll get a 15% discount on replacement filters, and extended warranty, and you’ll never have to worry about ordering replacement filters again.
Cost
When purchasing from the Aquasana website directly, at the time of this post, the Claryum 2 Stage Under Sink Water Filter is $124.99 with faucet and filters. You can sign up for the Water for Life program at the time of purchase, so discounted replacement filters will cost $50.99 (compared to regular price of $59.99).
This means after your initial purchase to install the water filter, your annual cost breakdown works out to only $8.50 a month.
That’s less than 2 Starbucks lattes a month.
I can sometimes get wrapped up in the initial costs of investing in new products like this. When it comes to the health benefits of reduced exposure to toxic chemical contaminants in your water, it’s an invaluable investment.
Conclusion
- Using a water filter is a non-negotiable
- A simple Brita filter is NOT enough to filter most contaminants
- Aquasana is an NSF Certified Brand you can trust
- Removes 15x more contaminants than the average pitcher water filter
- Removes 77 contaminants including lead, chlorine, PFAS, and pharmaceuticals
- Easy install
- Autoship replacement filters
Hopefully this makes you more confident that the Aquasana Claryum Two Stage Under Sink Water Filter is a great choice for water filtration.
